Our story

The small and modern Routhier & Darricarrère winery combines the family tradition of cultivating old world vines, with the irreverence of the new world.

The creation of the Routhier & Darricarrère Vineyard, in Rosário do Sul, Campanha Gaúcha Region, is the continuity of the work of this family of French origin, who has been dedicated for ten generations to the cultivation of grapes and the production of wines.

This project in Brazil was started in 2002 by the brothers Pierre and Jean Daniel Darricarrère, French, raised in Uruguay, who came to Brazil in the 70s to study. Along with the citrus fruit plantation project, they planted 6 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay vines with their Canadian partner Michel Routhier.

The new phase of ReD - Routhier and Darricarrere is marked by the influence of Julio Gostisa who joins the project and collaborates in the creation and elaboration of their iconic wine, the Salamanca do JarauSalamanca do Jarau, in a concept of extreme terroir, where besides the fermentation occurring spontaneously, the consumer is mysteriously invited to the imaginary, to the magic of the legend that takes place in Quaraí, in the Campanha Gaúcha region, illustrated and celebrated by the immortal art of Gelson Radaelli on the label.

Located between the parallels 29º and 32º South, the Campanha Gaúcha is in the same latitude range as other famous wine regions of the world, including Argentina, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. According to Embrapa Grape and Wine, it is a sunny area, with the highest temperatures and the lowest rainfall among the producing regions of Southern Brazil. At the same time, the vines - all planted in this region in a trellis system - were established in plains with low slopes, which favors the harvest, improves the insolation and facilitates the production of excellent grapes that originate great wines.

Today they work together Patrick Darricarrere in the vineyard, Anthony Darricarrere in the oenology and Julio Gostisa in the commercial and marketing. The winery has a total production capacity of 40,000 bottles per year and the focus of its production is on high quality wines.
